Potty Training Dolls

Some kids take to potty training like fish to water. For others, the entire process is an arduous task much akin a hike up to the top of Mount Everest. Many a parent has invested time, money and effort into training their little ones to use potty chairs, potty seats, and everything in between, only to be met with staunch opposition, a child who will soil herself repeatedly, and who will not cooperate. If you have ascertained that your child is mature enough to begin potty training, and if the child experiences longer periods of dryness, then the use of potty training dolls may indeed be indicated. By and large, a Little Mommy potty training doll is a good investment for the child who has tried other methods and failed.

Keep in mind that there are different kinds of potty training dolls – one model will have a tube that connects the mouth to a hole in the bottom and any liquid that is sent through the doll will cause her to instantly wet herself. Others have a fake bladder so that the doll can be given her drink but not eliminate unless the bladder is pressed. Still other dolls are anatomically correct to help the child to understand just where the pee is coming from, and thus will also help with recognition how to sit on the potty.

When purchasing a potty training doll for your child, make sure you also purchase a potty chair (for the doll) that matches the one your child is using, as well as some pull ups – for the doll as well as the child. While on eBay you might be able to find a used potty training doll and accoutrements, considering the nature of the training session, new potty training dolls may be a bit more sanitary.

The use of potty training dolls works because the child will take on your role of parent. The doll will be washed, a doll sized pull up will be put on, and then the doll is ready for play. At some time the potty training dolls will be fed some pretend food but given real liquid (water) to drink. Naturally, the inexpensive potty training doll will wet itself immediately while the more expensive model will not do so unless the bladder is pressed. Make sure that the child gets something to drink as well.

Suggest that the potty training baby doll and your child go to their potty chairs and have the child show the doll how to use the chair. Perhaps your child will model by example. If not have the doll model by also pressing on the bladder and having the water spew out into the doll’s potty chair. Upon successful completion of the doll’s potty experience, make a big fuss about the doll’s ability to go potty and if your child follows the lead and also goes potty, make an even bigger fuss over the child’s newfound ability as well. Be prepared to do this for a little while!
