Potty Chairs

Potty chairs are a staple in many a household where a toddler is making her of his first step toward being able to independently use a potty chair for elimination purposes. While in the beginning the toddlers’ potty chairs seem to present almost insurmountable problems to the little tykes, given time and practice they become quite capable of using them just like adults would use their regular toilets. Yet did you know that in the beginning the actual use of a potty chair for kids appears to be somewhat odd and at times even difficult to accomplish?

It is hard enough for a child to recognize that it is time to eliminate, but in addition to the realization that it is time, there is the learning curve of now eliminating outside of diapers and pull-ups. To make the process easier and to also present incentives to the little ones, there is a wide variety of different kinds of potty chairs that are currently being marketed.

Musical potty chairs will play happy little tunes as the lid is opened. This entices the child to not focus entirely on the aspect of elimination but to instead look forward to the opportunity to once again open the lid of the potty music box. Many adults like the look and feel of an antique potty chair simply for aesthetic reasons, but for children there is little appeal to the old wood potty chair that may have been popular decades (or maybe even centuries) ago.

Little girls like the Dora the Explorer potty chairs which not only feature the indomitable adventuress with her friends Boots and Isa the Iguana but which also show the stars and other accoutrements made so famous by Dora. For boys, the Thomas the Train potty chair is quite popular, and Thomas’ likeness – quite often in addition to that of Sir Topham Hatt – entices little boys to visit the bathroom and view their potty chairs as a fun implement of potty training.

Of course, there are also other kinds of potty chairs that you will find, such as the aforementioned wooden potty chair which is not as easy or comfortable to use or clean, the travel potty chair which is great when you are going on road trips with a little one who is being potty trained. A pink potty chair for a little girl, a seemingly adult potty chair for the big kid who is ready to graduate to the next group of potty chairs, the ubiquitous Baby Bjorn potty chair, and of course the potty chair & tray combination for those who are just starting out and need an incentive to stay put for longer periods of time.
