Night Lights

Alright, everyone who likes a little nightlight at bedtime raise your hands. So many? No surprise there. A wise man once sang “Whatever gets you through the night, is alright”. Inherited from our earliest ancestors, we have good reasons to be, not exactly scared, but careful of the dark. Maybe another way to say it is respectful of the dark. Alright, even setting aside millennia of evolution, anybody who has stubbed their toe really hard on the dresser in a dark bedroom can understand the good of a little friendly light in the darkness.

As any good parent knows, a baby wanting a nightlight in his room is not a scaredy cat or a moral coward. The boldest and most fearless baby on the highest slide in the playground can be the same one fussing for a nightlight. So why not let him have one?

Research that was published in 1999 found that babies younger than two years old who slept with a nightlight were at increased risk of developing myopia (nearsightedness); this was contradicted in a 2000 study by Ohio State University. Science Daily states in their March 2000 article, available on the web, that the University study states that no association was found between nighttime lighting and the development of nearsightedness. It doesn’t matter, the study went on to say, whether the baby slept in the dark, with a nightlight, or in a fully lit room. The prime factor in developing myopia, it was found, is if the child’s parent(s) were myopic.

So feel free and unashamed to get that nightlight for your infant’s room. Admit it, you’ve seen some really cute ones in the store and on the internet. How about that Baby Looney Tunes night light? Who wouldn’t feel better seeing Baby Bugs surrounded by stars and looking absolutely adorable?

If that isn’t quite the style, why not consider a Baby Looney Tunes nursery lamp with nightlight? This cute little shaded lamp has a three position switch that allows for traditional lamp brightness, a soft night light base or both. The whole Baby Looney Tunes gang adorns the base of the lamp. This nightlight will grow along with your baby for years of bedroom use. Look for it on amazon.com.

If product placement doesn’t appeal to you there are thousands of choices of generic night lights for your baby’s room. Fairy night lights might be just the thing. Your baby is already developing and showing their likes and dislikes, why not please them with a nightlight character you know they would like?

There are so many things you will have to say no to in your child’s life. Why not say yes to this?
